Wisdom Quote #310

“By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”

Emotion Quote #279

Emoticon

Emoticon

“Human behavior flows from three main sources: desire, emotion, and knowledge.”
PLATO

I found this urban emoticon during one of my solo photo walks. Love the frozen smiley made up by the decaying wood and the rusty iron. I’m sure this smiley has been here well before the first online irony marks appeared. This symbol looks like a sad joke mark. Did a little post processing to highlight the texture of the decaying wood. The complementary colors and the tight framing contribute to the abstract nature of the photograph.

Abandoned Quote #234

Inner Harbor, Baltimore

Inner Harbor, Baltimore

“Man can do nothing unless he has first understood that he must count on no one but himself; that he is alone, abandoned on earth in the midst of his infinite responsibilities, without help, with no other aim than the one he sets for himself, with no other destiny than the one he forges for himself on this earth.”

JEAN-PAUL SARTRE

I shot this picture in the historic Inner Harbor, Baltimore. The structures stand there in the busy harbor isolated and abandoned, relics from another time. The slowly decaying poles are fortified with steel cables and metal plates on the top section to keep the wood together. Standing there I contemplated about the passage of time. I wondered how the harbor might have looked like a century ago?
