Submarine Quote#237

USS Torks

USS Torks

“I must confess that my imagination refuses to see any sort of submarine doing anything but suffocating its crew and floundering at sea.”

H.G.WELLS

The USS Torsk (SS-423) is a museum ship in the Inner Harbor, Baltimore since 1972. The submarine was launched in 1944 and decommissioned in 1968. The old ship had seen better days. Now she is dreaming about the good old days patrolling the Pacific Ocean at WWII. The weathered and rusty nose provides an interesting contrast to the bright painting decoration. The reflections repeat the same motif. The diagonal composition and the tight framing contributes to the abstract quality of the picture.

  1. Very nice. I particularly like the way the light reflections from the water cast subtle patterns on the metal. As for the quote – I find it a little amusing that someone who can imagine time travel having trouble with submarines!
